Call for Applications 5th edition of the International Summer School in
Cultural Economics
For the fifth consecutive time the Centre for Research in Arts and Economics
(CREARE) organizes the International Summer School in Cultural Economics.The
courses examine the relationship between culture and economics, the link
between creativity, arts, and business, and bridge the knowledge and
experiences of scholars and practitioners involved in specific cultural
sectors.The courses are led by professor Arjo Klamer, renowned Cultural
Economist at the Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Who can apply
The summer school is an excellent choice for professionals working in the
field of creative industry (music, internet, gaming, design, film, etc),
media, cultural institutions, cultural policy, cultural entrepreneurs,
(academic) faculty, artists etc., who aim for an intensive international and
multidisciplinary course on the subject. There is a limited number of places
available for students.

Program
The course will provide both theoretical and practical knowledge. It consist
of a series of interactive seminars, group discussions, a few workshops, an
excursion and discussions with prominent cultural leaders in Amsterdam.
Topics covered are: the new or creative economy, the realization of values,
the vision and values of cultural organization, creative financing, dynamic
pricing, fundraising, cultural entrepreneurship, creative industries, the
economy of crafts, the functioning of art markets, creativity and
innovation, strategic management of cultural organizations, and leadership.
An economic primer is offered to those who are interested in learning basic
economic principles.
Participants learn from actual cases by interacting and engaging with
prominent cultural entrepreneurs and well-known international faculty, among
the others prof. dr. Arjo Klamer (Erasmus University, Rotterdam), professor,
dr. Kazuko Goto (Saitama University, Japan), dr. Olav Velthuis (Amsterdam
University), Lyudmila Petrova, MA (Erasmus University, Rotterdam), dr. Anna
Mignosa (Catania University), prof. dr. Cees Langerveld (director Chassé
Theatre, Breda, The Netherlands), dr. Christian Handke (Erasmus University,
Rotterdam).
A maximum of 20 participants will be admitted. Participants can receive
between 3 ECTS.
Fees
o Value of Culture: € 1.600.
The fee includes refreshments, materials, lunches and field trips and
excludes accommodation and meals.
NB! The Centre for Research in Arts and Economics provides 20 percent
discount for Japanese professional participants. Next to these, graduate
students can apply for additional grant covering up to 30 percent of the
tuition fee, i.e. in total 50 percent discount. Graduate students applying
for a grant are invited to send their CV, motivation letter and a
recommendation letter.
Location
The courses will take place in the heart of the vibrant, culturally rich and
creative Dutch capital Amsterdam, located only a few hours drive from other
main European cities like Brussels, Paris and Berlin.
